The Development of Artisan Cosmetics Course will be held for a period of 12 hours, divided into three blocks over a weekend. The course will be held on the premises of Casa Rural Laurel de la Reina, 10 minutes from Granada, in a beautiful house within the limits of the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada, where if you wish you can stay (please check availability).
The aim of the course is that you will learn to develop your own hand crafted natural cosmetics in a craft, made from ingredients you have at home and natural materials that can easily be acquired. Soaps, creams, body oils and perfumes will be the main types of cosmetics that you will learn to create in this course!
The course fee is 75 € and includes all training materials and everything you need for practice. Furthermore, you can take home all the soaps and creams prepared during the course!

Course Syllabus Development of Artisan Cosmetics (12 hours)
Saturday morning 10:30-14:30h. Development of Handcrafted Soap.
The first objective of this module is that you learn to develop your own soap formulas, learning the theory of saponification, getting to know the different natural sources, such as vegetable oils, essential oils, mineral and plant ingredients.
What is soap? Types of soap. Why does soap clean? Tools. Security. The saponification process. Soap making processes. Oils. Index of Saponification . Temperature. Water.
Practice. We will develop several batches of soap, from the most basic, pure olive oil, to different mixtures of different oils and incorporating decorative techniques.
Saturday afternoon 16: 30-20: 30h. Soapmaking II. Processing Creams and Oils
In this second part of the course, we finish the block soaps, finding out the most common problems and solutions, continue with an introduction to herbal medicine and to apply this knowledge in the production of formulas for creams, oils and soaps. Finally, we learn to develop our own creams using only natural vegetable oils and beeswax!
Common problems and solutions in soapmaking. Introduction to applied herbal cosmetics. Collection of medicinal plants: how and where? Preparation of creams: Basic Ingredients. The different phases of emulsions.
Practice: Development of different types of base creams from different vegetable oils.
Sunday morning 10:30-14:30h. Distillation and making perfumes
The last section will be devoted to the art of making perfumes, introducing the basic theory of its composition and other forms of distillation and the extraction of essential oils.
Demold and cut soaps made in the first session. Distillation of aromatic plants using a distiller. Basics for distillation and perfumery. Using the distiller. Reviewing matters and resolving doubts.
Practice: rosemary distillation by steam using the distiller. Preparing perfume samples.
